DUSHANBE, November 3, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Monday Novembe2, the Government of Tajikistan and its development partners today signed the Tajikistan Joint Country Partnership Strategy (JCPS) for 2010-2012.

The document was signed by Davlatali Saidov, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property, and Heads of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in Tajikistan; Asian Development Bank (ADB); European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD); European Commission; Germany; Organization for Security and Cooperation in Tajikistan; Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency; Swiss Cooperation Agency; UK Department for International Development; United Nations; United States Aid for International Development; and World Bank.

Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon witnessed the signing ceremony.

According to the ADB Resident Mission for Tajikistan, the JCPS is a result of the concerted efforts made by the government of Tajikistan and a group of 12 development partners in developing a joint strategy to enhance aid efficiency and effectiveness in Tajikistan in line with the principles set out in the Paris Declaration for Aid Effectiveness.

The JCPS seeks to affirm JCPS partners” common aim to support Tajikistan”s overall development goal and strategy, as described in its National Development Strategy: 2006-15 and related Poverty Reduction Strategies; to outline a common framework for more effective coordination and management of JCPS partners” resource flows to Tajikistan; and to define development outcomes, including shared principles of aid effectiveness, monitoring and evaluation.

The development partners shared the overall objectives and directions of the JCPS and plan to closely cooperate with the Government of Tajikistan in furthering the goals of the JCPS. The Government of Tajikistan also expects to closely coordinate with the JCPS development partners in improving aid effectiveness.

“This is the first time in Tajikistan that this kind of aid coordination and effectiveness initiative has been implemented, and development partners are proud of the strong partnership established with Tajikistan. We will continue to work together to promote social and economic development in the country,” stated the development partners.
