DUSHANBE, November 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — The CIS defense ministers’ meeting in Dushanbe has endorsed the concept of military cooperation between the CIS states designed for 2010-2015, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The 57th session of the CIS council of defense ministers that was held in the Tajik capital on November 10 brought together delegations of defense ministries from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
The source at a MoD said that the meeting participants had discussed state and prospects of further expansion of military-technical cooperation within the CIS area. In all, some 20 issues were tabled to the session’s agenda.
They, in particular, considered and approved the concept of military cooperation between the CIS states designed for 2010-2015. They also discussed the plan of work of the council for 2010, and main directions of development of the CIS unified air-defense system for the period until 2015.
The ministers also outlined ways of interaction between defense information services agencies for the period until 2015 and discussed the issue of creating digital cartographic database for strategic continental regions, the source said.
The CIS council of defense ministers was set up on February 14, 1992. It now includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
