KHOROG, November 13, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A new school opened in the village of Matravn, Yazgulem jamoat in the Vanj district of Gorno Badakhshan on November 11.

According to Gharibsho Gharibshoyev, the head of the GBAO education directorate, the new school to accommodate 180 pupils was built under financial support of the Catalytic Fund.  A total cost of the project is 774,000 somoni.

“18 schools, totaling 102 classes to accommodate 2,704 pupils, have been renovated  in the region this year,” Gharibshoyev said, noting that another new school will open in the Murgab district next week.

Another eleven schools to accommodate more than 600 students will have been introduced into operation in the region by the end of this year.

“Next year, we plan to renovate another nine schools in the region and begin constructing the second building of the vocational-technical school in the village of Debasta, Sugnan district,” the education directorate head noted.

He added that 27 schools and two kindergartens in the region were in a very poor state and required major repairs.
