DUSHANBE, November 25, Asia-Plus  — Despite torrential rain, a concert dedicated to a National Flag Day was held at the Dousti (Friendship) Square in Dushanbe on November 24.

Addressing those present, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev called on them to hold state symbols of the country, including the National Flag, in high respect.

On completion of an official part of the festivity, a 1501-meter-long Tajik flag was hung over the Roudaki Avenue, from President’s Palace to the Dousti Square.

In the meantime, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, noted that the flag, 1501 meters in length and 7 meters in breadth, had been made in Dushanbe’s workshops in one night and might claim to be set in Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records.

Besides, some 300 students marched through Dushanbe”s main street with a 90-meter-long Tajik flag to celebrate the holiday.

As part of the festivities, 22 runners completed a relay of 176 kilometers in which they carried Tajik flag from the city of Tursunzoda to the city of Roghun.

Tajikistan yesterday celebrated National Flag Day for the first time since it gained independence.
