KULOB, January 25, 2010, Asia-Plus — 25 farming units in Kulob, Farkhor and Vose districts of Khatlon’s Kulob zone have paid off cotton loans taken from Amonatbonk’s (Tajikistan’s savings bank) branches in the area last year, Rajabali Kulabekov, an expert from Amonatbonk’s branch in Kulob, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“Last year, the government gave a 7,220,150 somoni credit through Amonatbonk’s branches to 195 cotton producing farms in four districts of the Kulob zone,” said Kulabekov, “By January 22, they have repaid 3.122 million somoni.”
According to him, 3.653 million somoni were given to cotton farmers in Farkhor and they have repaid 1,881,792 somoni by January 22. Cotton producing farms in the Vose district received 1.948 million somoni in loans and they have repaid 810,300 somoni to this day.
“Amonatbonk is currently receiving loan applications for the 2010 season and preference will be given to farms that paid off their debts,” Kulabekov said.
