DUSHANBE. May 27. “Asia-Plus” — Eighteen officers of the Tajik Ministry of Interior, Tajik State National Security Committee and Prosecutor General’s Office took part in a three-week training course “United counter-terrorism strategy at national level” held at the US Embassy in Tajikistan. The course is the fourth training course conducted in 2010 in the frameworks of the Counter Terrorism Assistance Program which is funded by the Regional Security Office of the US Embassy in Tajikistan.
“Top interior officials and representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan participated in the development of the counter-terrorism strategy and establishment of national counter-terrorism center which is aimed to contribute to reveal terrorist organizations and prevention of terrorist attacks,” the US Embassy has said.
Starting from 2002 more than 350 officers took part in training sessions for which over $6mln were allocated by the Counter-Terrorism Assistance Program. Training sessions were conducted in Tajikistan and in the United States. The program opened its office back in 1983 on the basis of one of the departments of the Diplomatic Security Bureau under the US Department of State.
The counter-terrorism assistance program is one of the projects carried out by the US Embassy on behalf of the American people. Starting from 1993 the American people have allocated over $900mln for various programs on economic development, development of democratic institutes, health care, education and security system of Tajikistan.
