Sha Zukang: UN ready to provide assistance to Tajikistan for resolution of water and energy problems

DUSHANBE. June 7. “Asia-Plus” — International community, including the United Nations, highly evaluates Tajikistan’s efforts on resolution of water-related problems, Mr. Sha Zukang, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs spoke at a press conference held after his meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. Mr. Sha Zukang, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, arrived in Dushanbe on June 6 to take part in the high-level International conference on medium-term comprehensive overview of the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for life” for 2005-2015, which is due in Dushanbe on June 8-10, 2010.

“The international conference proves once again that in the course of these two days we are planning to discuss many water-related problems,” Mr. Zukang has said.

According to him, the UN is ready to provide assistance to Tajikistan, its full member, for resolution of water and energy problems, including training of experts working in the given direction.

“We are aware of those problems Tajikistan is facing and we stress that they can be settled through the dialogue and cooperation of all Central Asian countries,” he said, adding that the UN Secretary General pays much attention to resolution of these regional problems.
