Development of Tajik-Finnish cooperation in agrarian sector discussed in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE. June 10. “Asia-Plus” — Yesterday, June 9, Tajik Minister of Agriculture Kasym Kasymov met with the Finnish delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Finland Yoni Lind and Finnish Ambassador to Tajikistan Tulla Iriela.

According to Tajik Ministry of Agriculture, Tajik Minister Kasymov told his guests about current situation in the country’s agricultural sector and outlined major achievements, including last year’s record yield of cereals. He told his guests about the existing problems in agricultural sector which hamper the development. He also called imperfection and maladjustment of some laws as one of such factors.

He also outlined difficult access of farms to financial and other resources and added that lack of qualitative seeds, agricultural machinery, modern technologies and professional staff hamper the development of agricultural sector.

Finnish delegates have expressed their readiness to cooperate with Tajikistan in agricultural sphere. They have also expressed their interest in cooperation in cattle breeding via provision of genetic materials, high-quality seeds, in fishing sector in which Finland has huge experience.

Finnish deputy agriculture minister also expressed readiness to train Tajik agrarians.
