DUSHANBE. June 9. “Asia-Plus” — Yesterday, June 8, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met with Portugal”s Secretary of State, Prof. João Gomes Cravinho who arrived in Dushanbe to take part in the High-Level International Conference on the medium-term overview of the process of implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life” for 2005-2015.

According to the President’s press service, the sides have discussed a series of problems connected with modern challenges, lack of drinking water, rational use of water and energy resources and issues of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Portugal.

According to the source, the sides have agreed that Portugal’s good experience in resolution of water disputes can be applied to Central Asian region.

“In the course of the discussion, Prof. João Gomes Cravinho said that Portugal is ready to sign an agreement with Tajikistan on removal of double taxation,” the source has said.

Prof. João Gomes Cravinho stressed that Portugal is ready to invest funds into a series of Tajikistan’s projects, including projects in hydroelectric power sector and in the field of renewable energy sources.
