DUSHANBE, July 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — Over the first six months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 1.6886 billion U.S. dollars, which was 104.5 percent of the January-June 2009 level or 72.4 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
The trade balance was negative and amounted to 574.4 million US dollars.
Exports of goods in January-June 2010 amounted to 557.1 million US dollars, which was 35.4 percent, or 145.6 million U.S. dollars, more than in the same period last year.
Imports of goods into the country over the report period amounted to 1.1315 billion U.S. dollars, which was 6.1 percent, or 73.2 million dollars, fewer than in January-June 2009.
Compared to May 2010, exports and imports last month decreased by 7.1 and 1.8 percent respectively.
In January-June 2010, Tajikistan had trade relations with 87 countries of the world, including 10 CIS nations.
Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 41.7 percent (703.7 million dollars) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries accounted for 58.3 percent (983.9 million dollars) of the country’s external trade turnover.
