KULOB, August 3, 2010, Asia-Plus — More than 900 hectares of cotton plantations in Kulob district, Khatlon province have been affected by cotton worms and red spiders, Asia-Plus has learned from the first deputy Kulob mayor, Fayzali Qurbonov.
This year, local cotton farmers have planted cotton on 3,169 hectares of farmland, the deputy mayor noted.
“We are currently seeking funds to purchase necessary pesticides,” Qurbonov said, noting that the cotton sub-sector has become practically unmanageable for local farming units due to this year’s bad weather conditions.
