DUSHANBE, September 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik limited liability company, Sarvat, jointly with Canadian MEDS (phonetically spelled) is exploring the Rumri gold field in Tavildara district, eastern Tajikistan, the Sarvat director Abdumutali Muminov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the exploration work will allow determining possible gold reserves of the Rumri field.  “According to the preliminary estimates of Canadian specialists, Rumri is a promising gold deposit,” Muminov said, noting that geological specifications of the area allow supposing that there is a medium-sized gold and silver deposit there and development of this deposit will be economically efficient.

“The Canadian company has highly skilled specialists with considerable experience in exploring gold deposits,” said the Sarvat director, “The Canadian specialists’ finding will give additional opportunities to Sarvat for attraction of foreign investments for further development of the project.”

Sarvat was granted license from the Tajik government to explore gold reserves of the Rumri field in 2008 already.

We will recall that Tajikistan reportedly has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold.  The country now produces on average 1,600 kilograms of gold per year, most of which comes from the Jilau deposit operated by the Zeravshan Gold Company (Tajik-Chinese gold-mining joint venture, located in Sughd province).

According to the Ministry of Energy and Industries, Tajikistan has produced 740 kilograms of gold and 1,545 kilograms of silver over the first six months of this year, which is 203 and 367 kilograms respectively more than in the same period last year.  In all, 1,703 kilograms of gold are expected to be produced in Tajikistan this year.
