DUSHANBE, September 6, 2010, Asia-Plus /Avaz Yuldoshev/ — An official opening of a small hydropower plant, Shashboloi, is taking place in Nourobod district (eastern Tajikistan) today, Asia-Plus has learned from Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier).

This 183 kW plant has been built under financial support of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).  Introduction of this power plant into operation will help improve electricity supplies to a number of villages in Nourobod.  

“Another seven small hydropower plant will be introduced into operation in the country under support of IsDB until the end of this year,” said the spokesman, “IsDB has provided 9.2 million U.S. dollars for construction of eight small hydropower plants in Tajikistan, and the Tajik government’s share in these projects is 2.2 million U.S. million.”
