DUSHANBE, September 21, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik cotton farmers are taking measures to gather cotton on time and fulfill the national target, which has been determined at 300,000 tons of cotton this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

On September 20 alone, the cotton producing districts yielded more than 6,300 tons of cotton, the source at a MoA said.

Cotton growers in the southern Khatlon province have gathered 65,600 tons of raw cotton by September 21, which is 33 percent of the target.  The Khatlon farmers have pledged to produce 194,000 tons of cotton this year.

The cotton producing districts in Sughd province have yielded 7,200 tons of cotton to this day, which is 7.9 percent of the target.  The target is 92,000 tons of cotton.

Districts subordinate to the center have gathered 2,400 tons of cotton by September 21, which is 17.3 percent of the target determined at 14,000 tons of cotton. 

The country has yielded 74,300 tons of raw cotton by September 21, which comprises almost 25 percent of this year’s target, the source said.
