DUSHANBE, September 24, 2010, Asia-Plus — A two-day conference on ways to enhance trade and economic cooperation and transit shipments between Tajikistan and Afghanistan will take place in Dushanbe from October 7-8.

On Thursday September 23 Asanali Karamaliyev, the first deputy head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), met with Jean-Bernard de Milito and Boris Filippov from Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, according to the CCI press service.

They discussed issues related to holding of the mentioned conference.  

Mr. Jean-Bernard de Milito noted that Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan jointly with Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe plans to hold the conference at the Tajikistan Hotel in Dushanbe and representatives from relevant ministries, customs and tax committees, private sector and business communities of Tajikistan and Afghanistan will be invited to attend the conference.

Mr. Karamaliyev proposed to also invite representative of Tajikistan’s CCI in Afghanistan and specialists in free economic zones and transport corridors that will represent interests of the public sector and offer their proposals and recommendations on efficient settlement of problems of customs procedures, cross-border trade development and border security as well as expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajik and Afghan entrepreneurs.

The sides also discussed issues related to measures to improve a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan and obstacles that entrepreneurs of the two countries face, the CCI press service said.
