DUSHANBE, September 24, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia and Tajikistan took place in New York yesterday on sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly annual session.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the meeting participants exchanged views on the meeting’s agenda and other issues being of mutual interest.

They expressed interest in continuation of a dialogue dedicated to promote further consolidation of efforts to ensure mutually beneficial cooperation.  The sides reached an agreement on holding of meetings of high-ranking state officials from these countries in charge of foreign economic relations and fight against drug trafficking.

In the meantime, the first round of Tajik-U.S. negotiations on the draft joint plan for combating trafficking in nuclear and radioactive waste with participation of representatives from relevant ministries and departments of the two countries took place in Dushanbe on September 22, the source added.  The sides agreed to continue work in this direction for the purpose of signing the plan.
