CA countries must join efforts to support establishment of peace in Afghanistan, says Afghan envoy

DUSHANBE, October 1, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Thursday September 30, New Afghan Ambassador to Tajikistan, Dr. Abdughafour Arzu Akhtar Mohammad, presented his credentials to President Emomali Rahmon.

“Tajik President Emomali Rahmon plays an important role in an international policy in support of establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan,” Dr. Abdughafour Arzu Akhtar Mohammad told reporters after a meeting with President Rahmon.

He noted that as ambassador of his country to Tajikistan he would do everything possible to promote implementation of joint projects aimed at construction of automotive road and rail link connecting the two countries as well as energy projects concerning Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

According to him, all Central Asia’s countries must combine efforts to support establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan as well as the fight against drug trafficking, extremism and international terrorism.

“I am sure that no country of the region is able to tackle these problems alone,” Afghan envoy stressed.

We will recall that by Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s decree Abdughafour Arzu Akhtar Mohammad was appointed Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan in August, replacing Said Mohammad Khairkhah.

According to the Afghan Embassy in Dushanbe, Dr. Abdughafour Arzu Akhtar Mohammed was born in Herat in 1961.  He graduated from the Teachers’ Training University in Tehran, Iran.  Abdughafour Arzu Akhtar Mohammad had previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Afghan Embassy in Tehran.
