DUSHANBE, January 27, 2011, Asia-Plus — According to Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier), hydropower plants of Vakhsh Cascade operate in optimum regime during autumn-winter 2010-2011. It is the most optimum regime provided for them since 1991, the source at Barqi Tojik said.

The Barqi Tojik head Abdullo Yorov told reporters on January 26 that since mid-December Tajik power plants have generated 53 million kWh of electricity per day, which is 8 million kWh more than in the same period last year.

“It has become possible due to the fact that we have managed to keep the maximally high for this season level of waters at the Norak reservoir,” Yorov said.

According to him, Tajikistan now supplies 200,000 kWh of electric power to Afghanistan per day at the rate of 3 cents per one kWh.

At the same time, Tajikistan now imports some 50,000 kWh of electricity from Kyrgyzstan per day on the basis of mutual settlement of accounts. Besides, Tajikistan imports 1,000 kWh of electricity from Uzbekistan per day for Panjakent district, Sughd province at the rate of 4 cents per one kWh.

In 2010, Tajikistan imported 45.1 million somoni worth of electric power from Uzbekistan, which is 45.1 million somoni more than in 2009, the Barqi Tojik top manager said.

Power plants subordinate to Barqi Tojik generated 14.025 billion of kWh of electric power last year. Besides, the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant operated by OJSC Sangtudinskaya GES-1 generated 1.6334 billion kWh of electricity and hydropower plants operated by the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) generated 163.2 million kWh of electric power in 2010.
