DUSHANBE, June 20, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received visiting CIS education ministers today.

According to the presidential press service, the meeting focused on issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of educational cooperation between the CIS nations.  Noting that education is the basis of development and progress, Tajik leader noted that Tajikistan was interested in expansion of an efficient cooperation with all the CIS nations in education and other spheres.

The CIS education ministers, for their part, noted that their countries were interested in further expansion of educational cooperation, study of experience of each other, exchange of students, conducting joint research works and training skilled specialists, the source said.

We will recall that the 8th CIS education ministers’ conference took place in Dushanbe today.  The conference reportedly reviewed the results of work carried out since the previous conference, considered new tasks and discussed the results of activities of the CIS basic institutions for educational cooperation.  The conference also considered issues related to implementation of the CIS Network University Project.

The CIS Network University Project was initiated by People’s Friendship University of Russia in 2008. The CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation (IFHC) has supported this project.   The IFHC supported the project.  The Network University consortium includes 16 leading universities of eight countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine.
