DUSHANBE, June 29, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will receive visiting high-ranking Russian state officials today afternoon.

Sergey Naryshkin, Head of Russian President’s Office, and Anatoly Serdyukov, Russian Minister of Defense, are currently in Dushanbe to discuss cooperation issues with Tajik officials.

The source at the government says Rahmon and Naryshkin are supposed to consider state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.  They two will also discuss issues related to the upcoming visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Tajikistan scheduled for September this year.

“During his state visit to Tajikistan, President Medvedev will participate in a summit of heads of state of the CIS nations and the “Dushanbe G-4” summit (a meeting of the presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia),” the source added.

Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov has arrived in Tajikistan on a working visit.  During the visit, Serdyukov is scheduled to meet with his Tajik counterpart Sherali Khairulloyev, President Emomali Rahmon and the command of Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan.  According to the Tajik Defense Ministry press center, the sides are expected to discuss issues related to military and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.

Besides, Tajik president is receiving Mr. Ashok Lahiri, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), today to discuss investment in transportation, energy and agrarian sectors of the country, the source said.

The head of state will also receive a group of senior representatives from large companies of Saudi Arabia, who arrived in Tajikistan to participate in work of the Council of Investors of Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia.
