DUSHANBE, September 12, 2011, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has opened Consulate General in Ufa, the capital of Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic, Russia’s news agency, Itar-Tass, reports.

It is the second consulate general of Tajikistan in the Russian Federation.  The first Tajikistan’s Consulate General was established in Yekaterinburg, the administrative center of Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast on June 5, 2009.

An official opening of the Consulate General in Ufa took place on September 9.  Itar-Tass quoted Tajikistan’s Consul-General in Ufa Sodig Imomov as saying that the necessity of opening of the consulate general in Ufa had ripened long ago, “because a large number of Tajik nationals are currently living and working in Boshkortostan and other regions of the Volga Federal District, while the nearest Tajik diplomatic missions are in Moscow and Yekaterinburg.”

The consular district with the center in Ufa includes 14 regions adjacent to Boshkortostan.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, Tajikistan now has 22 embassies, three consulates in the Afghan cities of Kunduz, Mazar-i Sharif and Fayzabad, three consulates general (in Yekaterinburg and Ufa, Russia and in Dubai, United Arab Emirates), and two representative offices to international organizations.
