DUSHANBE, September 21, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Chairman of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) of Tajikistan Muhiddin Kabiri met with Iranian ex-Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati on sidelines of the First International Conference on Islamic Awakening that took place in Tehran on September 17-18.

It is to be noted that Ali Akbar Velayati is now Top Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei for International Affairs.

IRP’s head office in Dushanbe reports the meeting took place in Dushanbe on September 20 and the two discussed a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran as well as the current situation in the Central Asian region and process taking place in Tajikistan.

Kabiri reportedly appreciated Iranian government and people’s support for implementation of hydroelectricity and infrastructure development projects in Tajikistan.

In the meantime, Iranian media outlets report that more than 700 scholars from 80 countries took part in the Islamic Awakening conference in Tehran to discuss the different aspect of recent developments in North Africa and the Middle East.  “The participants believe that world powers are trying to highjack the recent revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa to secure their own interests,” the Press TV reported on September 19.

The scholars and thinkers in the conference made a final statement to conclude the conference as they agreed on 14 main points to keep the popular movements on the right track.

The permanent secretariat of the Islamic awakening conference will be established in Tehran to follow all the related developments in order to schedule a second conference in the near future.
