DUSHANBE, September 21, 2011, Asia-Plus — “Not only Taliban but also some groups inside the country that are interested in instability in Afghanistan are behind the assassination of Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani,” Tajik independent expert Qosim Bekmuhammad told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, after Ahmad Shah Masoud’s murder this terrorist act is the second serious blow on interests of Afghanistan “in terms of movement towards independence and sovereignty.”
“Professor Rabbani had spoken out against interference of foreign countries and world powers for decades,” said the expert, “Just several days ago, speaking at the International Conference on Islamic Awakening in Tehran, Burhanuddin Rabbani again stated his position and expressed regret over presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan, because a ten-year presence of them in Afghanistan has not yielded any specific results for Afghan society.”
Bekmuhammad considers that terrorist acts against political and public figures, military leaders and, first of all, influential ethnic Tajiks are being continued in Afghanistan because influential ethnic Tajiks speak out for the thorough peace in this country.
“This peace cannot meet interests of Taliban, with whom President Hamid Karzai wants to conduct peace talks under the patronage of the Untied States,” said the expert. “If Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the assassination of the chairman of the Afghan High Peace Council, it means that peace process in Afghanistan has reached an impasse.”
