DUSHANBE, October 24, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajik parliamentarians plan to halve their package of social guarantees.

Amendments to the Constitutional laws on the Majlisi Oli (Tajik parliament) and legal status of members of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) and deputies of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower house of parliament) provide for calculating parliamentarian’s expenses on the basis of the accounting index (current accounting index amounts to 35.00 somoni).  Currently, parliamentarian’s expenses are calculated on the basis of the minimum wage rate determined at 80.00 somoni.

Besides, the amendments provide for reducing the term of retention of salary of deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon after termination of powers from six to three months.

MP Rabiya Galiyeva, who is one of authors of the amendments, is sure that the next regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon will support the bill.  According to her, the Majlisi Namoyandagon committees and commissions have already supported the amendments.
