KULOB, November 29, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The daily supply of electricity to apartment buildings in the city of Kulob has increased from 690,000 kWh to 900,000 kWh, Kulob Deputy Mayor, Rustam Nematov, said.

“Taking into account recent fall of temperatures and frequent natural-gas disruptions, the mayor’s office has decided to increase the daily supply of electrical power to the apartment buildings by one or two hours,” said Nematov.

Since November 28, residential customers in the city of Kulob have had electricity 14-16 hours per day.

We will recall that a new rationing for electricity supplies was imposed throughout the country on October 13.  Measures rationing electricity supplies are usually introduced in all regions except Dushanbe and seek to curb the country”s rising electricity consumption. The rationing is introduced in October or November and lasts through April next year.  The rationing results in the supply of daily electrical power being reduced to 12 or 10 hours.  In addition to curbing rising consumption, the move also stems from a decline in the water level in the country”s reservoirs powering the main hydroelectric power plants.
