DUSHANBE, February 16, 2012 Asia-Plus — On Thursday February 16, Minister of Energy and Industries Gul Sherali met here with top managers of DWM Petroleum AG, which assumes the 90% ownership interest in the Tajik-Swiss joint venture, Somon-Oil, the press center of the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) said.
In the course of the talks, Gul Sherali reportedly pointed to the necessity of speeding up exploration operations and preparing the oil-and-gas prospects for drilling operation.
For their part, the DWN Petroleum AG top managers noted that the company would invest additional funds through Somon-Oil in development of exploration and drilling operations in Tajikistan, the source added.
Somon-Oil is currently carrying out exploration operations at the East Supetay gas field in the Asht district, Sughd province. The company has been granted the license for seven years.
According to the MoEI, there is no exact information about the possible reserves of this gas field, but some sources at the Sughd regional administration say the East Supetay field has possible oil reserves of 20.5 million tons and possible gas reserves of 14.3 billion cubic meters and 56 million U.S. dollars are needed for development of this field.
