DUSHANBE, April 7, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Friday April 6, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the German Energy Agency (DENA) Stephan Kohler.
According to president’s official website, the sides discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and DENA.
President Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan considered Germany its main partner in Europe.
Mr. Kohler noted that the German Energy Agency intended to expand cooperation with Tajikistan.
“After my travel to the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) I made certain once again that the construction of the Roghun HPP is of significant importance, and henceforth, I will call on German companies to participate in implementation of this project,” DENA’s CEO was quoted as saying.
He further added that the Tajik people might see him as ambassador of Tajikistan’s energy to Germany.
For his part, President Emomali Rahmon appreciated Germany’s thorough support for technical modernization of hydropower facilities and construction of small hydropower plants in Tajikistan.
Tajik leader expressed hope for further expansion of cooperation with Germany on enhancement of Tajikistan’s energy sector.
In the course of the talks, the sides also considered issues related to continuation of construction of small and medium-sized HPPs in Tajikistan as well as cooperation on exploration of oil and gas fields, production of biogas and energy-saving equipment.
The sides noted that further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy would promote economic development of Tajikistan and strengthening of security in the region, the source said.
Meanwhile, DENA’s CEO met with Mahmoudjon Sobirov, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan and Gul Sherali, Minister of Energy and Industries of Tajikistan on April 5.
Mr. Kohler’s discussions with Sobirov and Gul reportedly focused on prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, including introduction of modern German technologies that will help tackle problems facing Tajikistan’s energy sector.
According to information posted on DENA’s website, the German Energy Agency is the competence center for energy efficiency and renewable energies. DENA’s mission is to generate economic growth and maintain prosperity with ever lower energy inputs. If this is to be achieved, energy must be generated and used in both a national and international context as efficiently, safely and economically as possible with the least possible impact on climate.
