Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon is scheduled to take part in the Victory Day celebrations due in the Dushanbe’s “Victory” park on May 9.

Tajik Defense Minister will report to the President on the readiness of the Dushanbe garrison, National Guards, cadets of military colleges of Tajikistan and border guards to take part in the parade on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of Victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War, a source in the Government told AP.

According to the source, President is also scheduled to congratulate participants and visitors of the parade.

“18 veterans of the Great Patriotic War, government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats and representatives of civil society will take part in the Victory celebrations in Victory park as honored guests,” the source has said.

At least 1.800 soldiers are scheduled to take part in the parade.

More than 250.000 citizens of Tajikistan fought in the Great Patriotic War in the ranks of the Red Army. Nearly 55.000 warriors from Tajikistan were awarded orders and medals for courage and heroism, 68 were announced Heroes of the Soviet Union and 21 knights of Orders of Glory of three degrees. More than 100.000 citizens of Tajikistan were awarded orders and medals during the 1941-1945 GPW.

Currently 1.719 GPW veterans live in Tajikistan.
