QURGHON TEPPA, July 17, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Khatlon prosecutor’s office is seriously concerned over rising debts of local enterprises and organizations.

“As of July 1, 2012, the Khatlon enterprises and organizations owed 125.6 million somoni to the national budget,” noted the Khatlon chief prosecutor Sirojiddin Nourov.  “Over the first six months of this year alone, the region’s debts have risen eleven million somoni.”

Over the report period, local prosecutors have conducted 151 inspections and 25 criminal proceedings have been instituted against the most incorrigible defaulters, Nourov said.

According to him, the main reasons for late tax payments have been lack of finance, illegal entrepreneurship, tax hiding and the stoppage of financing by investors of enterprises and farming units.

“Despite rising tax debts, the tax collection target for the first six months in the province has been overfulfilled by two percent,” the Khatlon chief prosecutor said.
