DUSHANBE, August 27, 2012, Asia-Plus — A meeting of ambassadors of the European counties to Tajikistan with the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri reportedly took place in Dushanbe at the end of last week on an initiative of the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan.
An official source at IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe says the meeting focused on the current situation in the Central Asia region and in Tajikistan in particular. A special attention was paid to the current situation in Gorno Badakhshan.
Speaking on the situation in Gorno Badakhshan, Kabiri noted that sending additional government troops to Khorog had led to many political and legal complications.
“Kabiri stated that the Islamic Revival Party is supporter of the supremacy of law but the government should restore the supremacy of law in the region in a legal way,” said the source. “IRP leader stressed that force may be used only if negotiations are fruitless.”
Kabiri reportedly noted that non-transparency of the military operation has given rise to many rumors and speculations in society.
“IRP leader also strongly condemned the murder of Sabzali Mamadrizoyev, the head of IRP’s organization in Gorno Badakhshan,” the source said.
Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991. It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999. Its official newspaper is

(Salvation). According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members. It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections. The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
