DUSHANBE, December 12, 2012, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday December 11, President Emomali Rahmon received Ms. Cihan Sultanoglu, UN Assistant Secretary-General &Director/Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to the president’s official website reports, the sides discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN agencies, in particular UNDP.

Events dedicated to the International Year of Water Cooperation and the

Sustainable Energy for All initiative were also among major topics of the meeting.

The sides reportedly expressed confidence that an international water conference that is expected to take place in Dushanbe next August under the aegis f the United Nations will help find solutions to global water problems.

UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS (RBEC) serves 29 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. With its headquarters in New York, RBEC comprises 21 country offices and one Regional Service Center in Bratislava. It also provides programme/project services to eight other countries.
