DUSHANBE, December 19, 2012, Asia-Plus  — An official four-day visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to Turkey concluded on Tuesday with signing of a package of bilateral cooperation documents, the Tajik president’s official website reports.  

On Tuesday December 18, Emomali Rahmon met with Turkish President Abdullah in the Turkish capital Ankara.

The sides reportedly expressed satisfaction with the level of contacts between the leaders of the two countries.

Negotiations in an enlarge format focused on trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey.  The delegations, in particular, discussed issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation in sectors like transportation, energy, agriculture, health, education, science and culture.

The negotiations reportedly resulted in signing of nine new cooperation documents, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between central banks of the two countries, an agreement on cooperation between the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting of Tajikistan and Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Turkey on youth and sports cooperation, a memorandum on cooperation between the governments of Tajikistan and Turkey in the field of energy and mining, a joint declaration on cooperation between the Ministries of Justice of Tajikistan and Turkey, a program of cultural exchange between Tajikistan and Turkey, a program of cooperation between MFAs of Tajikistan and Turkey designed for 2013-2014, and a joint declaration on the results of Tajik president’s official visit to Turkey.

Tuesday afternoon, Tajik president also met with Turkey’s parliament speaker Cemil Cicek.

In all, sixteen new cooperation documents were signed during the last visit of Emomali Rahmon to Turkey, the Tajik president’s website reports.

World Bulletin reports that Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday they attached a great importance to security, stability and economic development of Tajikistan.

The political relations of the two countries were excellent, Gul said at a joint conference with visiting Tajik President Emomali Rahmon at the Cankaya Palace in capital Ankara.  Gul said the trade volume between Turkey and Tajikistan reached 500 million USD.

Gul said Turkey and Tajikistan shared a lot of common values and Mawlana Jalal ad-Din al-Rumi was one of the most important of them.  He said they discussed cooperation in many fields, especially on economy and energy and added increasing the number of flights to Tajikistan were among the issues they talked about.
