DUSHANBE, December 22, 2012, Asia-Plus – Tajik authorities intend to block more than hundred websites, including social network sites.

According to some sources, Tajikistan’s communications service agency Friday evening ordered Internet –providers to block access to 131 websites.

The Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan reportedly ordered providers to block mainly the websites posting music and video.

Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, reports that Russian social network sites such as “Vkontakte” and “Odnoklassniki” are also on the “black” list of websites to be blocked.

The Twitter website was reportedly also ordered blocked, as was topvideo.tj, the Tajik version of YouTube.

Meanwhile reports said Facebook, which was blocked at the end of November, was not on the list of sites to be blocked.

“Most likely, we will refrain from blocking the sites until December 24,” a representative of Internet-providers was cited by the Russian news agency, Interfax, as saying.

The communications service agency and the Association of Internet-Providers of Tajikistan have still refrained from commenting on the issue.
