DUSHANBE, September 23, 2013, Asia-Plus – A group of terrorists captured in Dushanbe at the end of last week reportedly planned to blow up several government buildings in the Tajik capital.

“A group of terrorists captured in Dushanbe at the end of last week were going to blow up four gates to Dushanbe as well as buildings of the Ministry of Interior and the State Committee for National Security and several other government buildings in Dushanbe,” a well informed source in Tajik power-wielding structures told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

According to him, the group was led by the 29-year-old resident of the Chorgul jamoat in the Roudaki district, Alimurod Makhanov, who is also known under the nickname “Ustod.”  “Alimurod Makhanov underwent training in one of camps of militants of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) in Pakistan,” the source noted.

“To-date, ten members of this terrorist group have been taken into custody,” the source said, noting that pistols, subversive literature and plans of buildings they planned to blow up were confiscated from them.  “A search operation for other members of the group is under way.”

We will recall that the Ministry of Interior (MoI)’s press center released a statement on September 21 saying that several terrorists have been captured in Dushanbe.  The group allegedly planned to stage attacks to disrupt a presidential election scheduled for November 6.  The ministry promised to provide more details about the group Monday evening.
