DUSHANBE, December 19, 2013, Asia-Plus — 218 computers, 160 modems and firewalls, and 90  printers were distributed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan (MoHSP) to health facilities of Dushanbe city and 67 districts for the strengthening of the HMIS system, press release issued by the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan says.

The equipment was provided by the European Union within the project, Supply of IT Equipment in Support of Strengthening of the Health Information System in Tajikistan.

The first 20 districts and Dushanbe city will be connected to the DHIS2 system by the end of the year 2013 and the remaining 47 districts by the middle of the year 2014. The strengthening of the health management information system will be accompanied by the extensive training of statisticians and decision makers in computer literacy and DHIS2 system use.

The equipment will be used by the beneficiaries for the improvement of quality of collected, analyzed and reported health statistics and for informed decision making, better understanding of the performance of the health sector and better use of resources.

The accompanied technical assistance EUR 3.4 mln project, Technical Assistance to Support the Strengthening of the Health Information System, which focuses on the roll-out a country-wide electronic reporting system will last till May 2016and is being implemented by EPOS Health Management (Germany) in consortium with ICON-Institute Public Sector (Germany), Oslo University (Norway) and IrfatC (Tajikistan).

The European Union is committed to sharing its achievements and its values with countries and peoples beyond its borders. To this end the EU is active in Tajikistan since 1992 and provides approximately EUR 25 million annually in development assistance.
