DUSHANBE, December 23, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan now purchases up to 700 tractors from Belarus per year.

Belarusian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Olga Gavruk, stated this at a press conference in Dushanbe on December 23.

The press conference dedicated to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Belarus took place at the Republic Press Center.

In a report released at the press conference, Belarusian diplomat also noted today that Tajikistan has purchased pedigree cattle from Belarus this year.

“Belarus exported 4 billion U.S. dollars worth of farm produce to other countries last year, and the Belarusian authorities plan to increase this figure to 7 billion U.S. dollars,” Ms Gavruk noted.

The Bobruisk plant of tractor parts and units has opened its branch here for assembling mini tractors, Belarusian diplomat said, noting that Tajikagroleasing, Agrotechservice, Madadi Tursunzoda and several other private companies had delivered 1,201 MTZ tractors to the total amount of 142/3 million somoni to Tajikistan in 2011-2012.

She noted that the two countries could also cooperate in the field of energy.  Belarusian vehicles BelAZ could be used for construction of hydroelectric power plants (HPP), Ambassador Gavruk added.

According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Belarus in January-November 2013 has valued at US$75.7 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Belarus estimated at US$6.4 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Belarus worth US$69.3 million.

Tajikistan’s exports to Belarus mainly include cotton fiber, primary aluminum, and dried fruits.  Tajikistan’s imports from Belarus include furniture, sugar, tractors, medicines, fluorides, and woodworking products.
