DUSHANBE, March 31, 2014, Asia-Plus — On Monday March 31, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met here with visiting China’s State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral military and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and China.
President Rahmon reportedly noted that China was a good neighbor, reliable friend and partner of Tajikistan and expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Colonel-General Chang Wanquan highly appraised Tajikistan’s rotating chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and stressed that his country will support strengthening of independence of Tajikistan and its defense capacity in the future as well, the president’s website said.
We will recall that China’s State Councilor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan arrived in Tajikistan in the evening of March 29 on an official visit.
During his visit, Gen. Chang Wanquan will also attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defense Ministers” Meeting that will take place in the Tajik northern city of Qairoqqqum from April 1-3. The meeting participants are expected to discuss in-depth the consensus reached by leaders of the SCO member states and the concrete measures to maintain regional security and stability and deepen the defense and security cooperation.
