Floods reportedly cause damage to Vahdat, Roudaki and Yovon districts

DUSHANBE, May 12, 2014, Asia-Plus — Torrential rain in the night of May 10-11 caused floods that caused damage to Vahdat, Yovon and Roudaki districts, according to the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan.

“Floods have damaged 15 houses in the Abduvosiyev jamoat, 10 houses in Chorsou village, and 2 houses in Rajab Ismoilov jamoat that are subordinate to the Vahdat Township (17 kilometers to the east of Dushanbe).  Besides, five cars, 10 houses and one shop were buried under a slurry slide in Simiganj jamoat,” an official source at a CES told Asia-Plus in an interview.  No injuries were reported, according to him.

In Simiganj, the slurry slide reportedly also damaged two kilometers of road.

Floods also case damage to residential buildings in the Roudaki district subordinate to the center and in the Yovon district (Khatlon province).

In Yovon district, the flood seriously damaged a water supply system in Dahana jamoat, which supplies safe drinking water to residents of the Yovon administrative center.

In the Roudaki district, the flood water infiltrated into 400 residential buildings in Zaynobod jamoat, the CES representative noted.

According to him, working groups are currently working in the disaster sites to assess an actual damage caused by floods to the mentioned villages.
