GDP per capita in Tajikistan expected to reach nearly 1,500 USD in 2016

DUSHANBE, May 13, 2014, Asia-Plus – Specialists from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) expect the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in Tajikistan to rise 12 percent in a year to December 31, 2014.


The Forecast of Major Macroeconomic Indicators for 2014 and Major Parameters of GDP for 2015-2016

notes that GDP per capita in Tajikistan will reach 5,892 somoni (equivalent to 1,217 USD) this year.

As of January 1, 2014, GDP per capita in Tajikistan was recorded at little more than 5,100 somoni or some 1,100 USD.

In July 2013, GDP per capital in Tajikistan was recorded at 1,000 USD, while it did not exceed 400.00 USD several years ago.  Tajikistan’s GDP per capita reportedly averaged 385.27 USD from 1990 until 2011.

Specialists from a MoDT expect DP per capita to reach 6,610 somoni or 1,355 USD in 2015 and 7,365 somoni or 1,496 USD in 2016.


The Forecast

also notes that Tajikistan’s population will reach 8.232 million by the end 2014, 8.4 million in 2015, and 8.581 million in 2016.

Tajikistan’s GDP is expected to stand at 48.5 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 10 billion USD) in 2014, 55.53 billion somoni in 2015, and 63.2 billion somoni in 2016.  

We will recall that last year, Tajikistan’s GDP stood at 40.5245 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 8.5 billion USD), an increase of 7.4 percent over 2012 in comparable prices.
