DUSHANBE, July 15, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) has begun the process of selecting candidates for the lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament and district, city and regional legislatures.
IRP deputy leader Mahmadali Hayit, who is the head of the IRP central election staff, says they party has set up election staffs in all regions of the country where IR’s primary organization function.
“Besides, our party is training observers who will monitor parliamentary elections that are expected to take place in February next year,” Hayit told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the party primary organizations will submit their lists of candidates for the parliament and local councils for consideration to the IRP Political Council in the near future.
Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991. It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999. Its official newspaper is

(Salvation). The IRP now has more than 41,000 members. The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party in post-Soviet Central Asia that is officially registered and represented in a parliament. It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections. Current chairman of the IRP is Muhiddin Kabiri.
According to some sources, women now constitute more than 51 percent of the Islamic Revival Party members.
