DUSHANBE, September 17, 2014, Asia-Plus — The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) and Germany’s Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation (SBFIC) have recently signed a cooperation agreement.

According to the NBT press center, the main objective of the agreement is in giving a new impulse to development of Tajikistan’s banking system through professional development of its specialists.

Tajik central bank says this long-term agreement consists of two phases.  Phase 1 that covers the period from October 1, 2014 to September 1, 2017 provides for providing dual training for 250 specialists of Tajikistan’s banking system.       

The National Bank of Tajikistan is the central bank of Tajikistan.  The Bank is engaged in developing policies to promote financial inclusion and is a member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion.

Sparkassenstiftung fuer Internationale Kooperation (Savings Bank Foundation for International Cooperation, SBFIC) provides financing and assistance to microfinance institutions (MFIs).  Launched in 1992 by Germany’s Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, a group of savings banks, SBFIC focuses on five project types: development of retail banks, credit lines for small and medium enterprises, transforming NGOs into formal banks, human resource development and training, and financial-sector development.
