DUSHANBE, January 16, 2015, Asia-Plus — In 2014, 19,352 crimes were registered in Tajikistan, which is reported, which is 1,016 cases more than during 2013, Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 16.
According to him, there were 3,417 serious crimes reported, which was 306 cases more than in 2013.
“97 murders (-15), 40 cases of banditry (-8), 151 cases of robbery (-19), 57 cases of rape (+6), 123 cases of inflicting serious bodily injury (+16), 1,302 cases of hooliganism (+75), 3,630 cases of theft (+6), and 2,458 cases of fraud (+1,164) were registered in the country last year,” the minister said.
6,213 kilograms of drugs were seized in Tajikistan last year, which was 413 kilograms fewer than during 2013. Police reportedly accounted for 45 percent (2,806 kilograms) of drugs seized in the country in 2014.
Last year, 1,302 illegally possessed firearms were confiscated, which was 122 firearms more than during 2013.
The number of reported crimes committed by minors increased from 725 in 2013 to 800 in 2014, the minister noted.
Some 87.7 percent of all the crimes were solved in 2014 compared to 86.7 per cent in 2013.
Special operations carried out by police in 2014 reportedly led to the arrest of 116 members of terrorist and extremist organizations, who committed 338 serious crimes.
“Last year, police officers prevented five terrorist acts and solved one terrorism-related crime,” Rahimzoda stressed.
