DUSHANBE, February 19, Asia-Plus — A handover ceremony for “The Project for Construction of the 2nd Building for Central Hospital in Baljuvon District” was held at the Baljuvon district central hospital on February 18.

Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says a total amount US$ 113,243 was granted by the Government of Japan to the local government of Baljuvon district within the framework of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).”

The ceremony commemorating the successful completion of the project was attended by Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr. Foteh Aminzoda, Chairperson of Baljuvon District, and representatives from the Baljuvon district central hospital.

During the ceremony, Mr. Kamada reportedly remarked that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to make contribution to the development of various sectors throughout Tajikistan, in both remote and urban areas.  With the improved medical facility, this project in particular will benefit the Baljuvon central hospital’s annual 10, 000 patients.

Mr. Aminzoda in his speech extended his words of gratitude to the Government and people of Japan as well as to all of the people who worked tirelessly to realize this important project.

With the completion of the project, the new additional building for the Central Hospital has been built within the property of the hospital.  The newly constructed building consists of eight rooms, which include diagnosis and treatment rooms for obstetrics and gynecology, internal diseases, surgery, dentistry, otorhinolaryngology, and urology.  Upon completion of the project, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan also equipped the new medical facility with the necessary equipment.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

“Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project” (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs.  As of today, GGP has supported 341 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 27.6 million has been allocated since 1996.
