DUSHANBE, February 27, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Tajik national currency, the somoni (TJS), has lost more than 3.4 percent of its value against the dollar (USD) over the past week.

The value of TJS has continued to depreciate against USD, registering an average market purchase rate of the dollar against the somoni 1:5.9775 on February 27, up from 1: 5.755 on February 20.

According to data from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the market exchange rate between USD and TJS in Dushanbe increased from 1:5.76 on February 20 to 1:597 on February 274, with similar exchange rate rises in other parts of the country.

In Khujand, the capital of Sughd province, the market exchange rate between USD and TJ increased from 1:5.77 on February 20 to 1:5.99 on February 27.

In Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province, the market exchange rate between USD and TJ increased from 1:5.75 on February 20 to 1:5.98 on February 27.

In Kulob (Khatlon province), the market exchange rate between USD and TJ increased from 1:5.74 on February 20 to 1:5.98 on February 27.

In Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), the market exchange rate between USD and TJ increased from 1:5.48 on February 20 to 1:5.55 on February 27.

Meanwhile, an official exchange rate between USD and TJS set by the National Bank of Tajikistan rose from 1:5.4233 on February 20 to 1:5.4432 on February 27.

Tajik central bank notes that the somoni lost 10.2 percent of its value against the dollar last year.
