DUSHANBE, April 18, 2015, Asia-Plus – Russian news agency TASS reports that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani today said in a statement before the beginning of a military march-past devoted to National Army Day in Tehran that Iran will stand by all of its international commitments regarding the development of nuclear power and continue negotiations on the nuclear program till a final agreement.
“We will comply with our international obligations concerning the nuclear program and will seek the conclusion of a nuclear deal,” Rouhani said about the forthcoming talks between Iran and the international sextet (five permanent UN Security Council member-states and Germany).
“Our armed forces are a guarantee of preserving and strengthening peace in the region,” Rouhani said, as he greeted the army unites lined up for the parade.
“The country’s armed forces are the largest in the region, but nevertheless, their aim is to maintain security and not make an aggression against an unarmed population. In this sense, Iran gives an example to other states,” Rouhani said.
He condemned air strikes delivered by the Air Force of Saudi Arabia and the coalition it leads on Yemen, which “carry death and destruction, killing innocent old people, women and children.”
He also addressed countries providing financial support to terrorists in Syria and Iraq, stressing: “The seeds of hatred that you are trying to sow in the hearts of people will sooner or later backfire on you.”
Iran says it needs nuclear power to generate electricity, but Western powers led by the United States claim Tehran”s eventual aim is to create nuclear weapons, TASS reports.
The P5+1 is the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France – plus Germany.
At a meeting in Vienna in November 2014, the P5+1 and Tehran agreed to extend the deadline for a deal in the talks on Iran’s nuclear program to June 30, 2015.
The latest round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 in Lausanne ended April 2, 2015 with the conclusion of a joint comprehensive action plan on the Iranian nuclear program, to be adopted by the end of June.
As the plan is being implemented, all political and economic sanctions are to be lifted from Tehran. Meanwhile, on April 9 media quoted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as saying that if sanctions are not lifted first, Iran will not sign the nuclear deal with the six international negotiators.
