DUSHANBE, June 12, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today morning departed for Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the opening ceremony of the 2015 European Games.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Erkinkhon Rahmatullozoda, Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy Rustam Emomali, President of the Tajikistan Football Federation Akhtam Abdullozoda, chairman of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs Bahrullo Rajabaliyev, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan and some other officials are accompanying the president on his visit to Baku.

The 2015 European Games, also known as Baku 2015 or Baku 2015 European Games will be the inaugural edition of the European Games, an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe.  It is scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 12-18, 2015, and will feature more than 6,000 athletes from 50 NOCs competing in 20 sports.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on June 12 in the Olympic Stadium and will be directed by artistic choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou who was praised for his work during 2004 Summer Olympics.

The Closing Ceremony will be held on 28 June in the Olympic Stadium.  James Hadley has been appointed as the Artistic Director of the Closing Ceremony.
