DUSHANBE, June 30, 2015, Asia-Plus – The 2nd meeting of the Tajik-Moldovan intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation took place in Dushanbe on June 30.
Co-chaired by Qodir Qosim, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management of Tajikistan and Tudor Kopchak, Deputy Minister of Economy of Moldova, the meeting reportedly focused on issues related to further expansion of economic, educational and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting participants outlined sectors like agriculture, transportation, health and investment as areas, of which could drive bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Moldova.
They noted that there was considerable room for expansion of economic ties.
The meeting participants pointed to the necessity of taking measures to expand a two-way trade between the two countries.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Moldova last year valued at 3.9 million U.S. dollars, which was 25.3 percent fewer than in 2013. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Moldova estimated at 1.3 million U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Moldova worth 2.6 million U.S. dollars.
