DUSHANBE, July 3, 2015, Asia-Plus — The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) continues to advise against all but essential travel to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The FCO, in particular, notes that British nationals considering travel to Gorno Badakhshan should contact the British embassy in Dushanbe to get the latest information about the situation in that region of the country.

Information posted on the FCO’s website says that the government of Tajikistan sometimes suspends issuing permits for travel to Gorno Badakhshan by foreign nationals entering Tajikistan on tourist visas. This can happen at short notice, depending on the security situation in neighboring provinces in Afghanistan.

“Diplomats are still not permitted to travel to the GBAO.  Due to these restrictions, the British Embassy in Dushanbe is not currently able to provide a full range of consular services to British nationals in the GBAO,” the information notes.

The FCO also warns of incidents that occurred or can occur in Gorno Badakhshan.
