DUSHANBE, January 26, 2016, Asia-Plus – Last year, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) carried out a series of currency interventions totaling nearly 68 million U.S. dollars in the cash market, the NBT head Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 26.
“Besides, currency interventions totaling 384.4 million dollars were carried out last year in the inter-bank currency market,” Tajik central bank head said, noting that all those measures were taken to support the Tajik national currency, the somoni.
Despite these measures, the official exchange rate of the somoni against the dollar last year fell 31.7 percent and the market exchange rate of the somoni against the dollar fell 38.6 percent in 2015, Nourmahmadzoda added.
