DUSHANBE, February 29, 2016, Asia-Plus – Rehabilitation of an almost 14-meter section of the Shahriston Tunnel that has been damaged by a recent earthquake is under way, according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).

An official source at a MoT says “part of concrete has fallen but the supporting reinforced concrete construction has not been damaged.”

According to him, concreting works are nearing completion.

The 5,252-meter Shahriston Tunnel, which is part the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway rehabilitation project, was introduced into operation in October 2012.  The tunnel was constructed with help of specialists from China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).  A total budget for construction of the Shahriston Tunnel is 430 million somoni.
